PEZ Candy Factory Playset Posted by Paul on February 20,2003:
Racing Champions Ertl, a company that makes collectible toys, announced a PEZ toy in July 2002. Now some more information about the toy is coming to light.
Ertl makes the "Hometown Roadway® Wooden Track System", which is a series of toys sold through Zany Brainy stores. According to Ertl, this is "a reality-based wooden roadway system complete with vehicles, road packs, buildings, bridges, and playsets that are compatible with existing wood train sets." The series includes vehicles based on real-life vehicles made by manufacturers like Ford, GM, Chrysler, John Deere, and Harley-Davidson, and buildings with licensed brands, including PEZ. The series includes the "Pez Candy Factory Playset", which was scheduled for release in September, 2002, according to their web site.
There have been reports that the playset will not be available until April 2003. However, a member of the PEZHeads mailing list has reported ordering one and receiving it in the mail. Apparently the playset contains 39 wooden pieces, and includes: a PEZ loader truck, a PEZ tractor trailer truck, and a PEZ factory building. The factory building contains a picture of a long chin clown with PEZ candies being made at the factory. The track lays out to 39 inches by 19 inches.
The track system is supposed to be compatible with other wooden track systems, so if you collect both PEZ and wooden tracks (like Thomas The Train or Brio), then this is an ideal item for you!
